Description

The Sky Tiger is a old, squat Barquo type ship [1] which has been renovated and modified over the years to keep it sky-worthy. [2]. It was built before the articulated locomotive engine entered mass production, so it is reliant on powerful vertical propellers, meaning that there is no room for large sails like on the Steamhawke. Instead, it has small sails at the fore and aft. It has two double rows of cannons on either side of the ship. It also has steel plating on its sides, which adds tons of weight to the ship, and makes the ship difficult to maneuver.[3] The ship's engine is considered old-fashioned, and is twice the size of any of the modern, more compact engines. Almost the entire lower deck of the ship is dedicated to engine operations. [4]. Later, it is discovered that the Sky Tiger has two engines, the second of which may have been added after Stallion became Captain. [5]

Story

Philippe Dubois has been captain of the Sky Tiger at least since Jack was a boy. [6] Daenelia Bradley is hired at age eighteen as a cabin girl. [7]. Six years later, she has become the ship’s helmsman. [8] Bradley was part of a group of pirates aimed to dispatch Dubois because of his perceived incompetence.[9] Dubois is assassinated by Dieter Bauer, an engineer, who is in turned killed by Stallion. The rest of the mutinous pirates are killed as well and Bradley is tossed overboard.[10] Jack Stallion becomes the Sky Tiger’s captain.

Twelve years later, both Jack and Daenelia are looking for the other half of the map (which each of them has) that leads to Blue Barry’s treasure. The Sky Tiger has a fight with the Myposian Guard after pursuing the Steamhawke to Elladia. The Steamhawke, emerging from an alchemical fog, decides to engage the Sky Tiger in a fight.[11] Some of the crew of the Steamhawke are able to cross over unto the Sky Tiger, [12] rescuing a captive Iride Coriolix[13]; at the same time, some of the crew of the Sky Tiger manage to board the Steamhawke as well.[14] Wren Tamyrl and Ashrieda Sjaarda sneak onto the Sky Tiger’s engineering deck and plant a bomb [15] which cripples the ship. Jack, having boarded the Steamhawke himself, is defeated and tossed overboard, much like Daenelia was years before. [16]

  • Hennessy is a crew member who was told off by Dubois for requesting an extra measure of whiskey. [20]

  • Daenelia Bradley is hired first as a cabin girl [23] and later becomes helmsman. [24] She is tossed overboard after Dubois is killed. [25].
